The much-awaited CCTV-based surveillance and traffic management system has been made operational at 11 points in Mohali and is in test mode. “Work is in progress at five more points, while four points will be made operational soon,” said additional deputy commissioner (general and urban development) Viraj S Tidke.
Tidke assessed the progress of CCTV installation under the City Surveillance & Traffic Management System with MC commissioner T Benith and GMADA additional chief administrator (ADA) Amarinder Singh Tiwana. Jaswinder Singh, executive engineer of Punjab Police Housing Corporation, briefed the ADC and other officers on the progress of the installation of CCTVs.
He said that four more points will be installed after the completion of civil works by GMADA at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, Radha Swami Chowk, Dairi T-Point (Landran Banur Road).
ADC Tidke requested GMADA ACA Tiwana to provide the schedule for the remaining work to resume installation at these points.
MC commissioner T Benith instructed the executing agency to complete all technicalities before the official launch of the surveillance system, including marking stop lines before zebra crossings and installing speed limit signboards. He said that the MC staff would handle marking stop lines and installing speed limit boards in areas under the MC’s jurisdiction, while the GMADA would complete these tasks in its areas to ensure the system functions according to the rules.
