The city police and traffic police will now be able to independently manage crime and traffic control with the help of 3,600 CCTV cameras installed under Smart City and 2,200 at various establishments, which have been integrated with setting up of the new Command and Control Centre at police control room building in Civil Lines.

The centre, inaugurated by deputy chief minister and home minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday, has been established jointly by Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) and Nagpur Police.

Previously, the joint control was maintained by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), police department, and traffic police at the Shradhay Atal Bihari Vajpayee City Operation Centre located at NMC headquarters. The Vajpayee centre will now oversee urban facilities and disaster management in the city.

During the programme, the deputy CM also launched the Simba app and the upgraded police website, and returned recovered property valued at approximately ₹4.5 crore to 280 complainants.

The Simba app provides comprehensive information about criminals and their gangs. With the help of AI, police can instantly track the current whereabouts of criminals. The centre has the capacity to store data for about 90 days, and footage from drones can also be viewed here, said commissioner of police Ravinder Singal in his introductory speech.

The state-of-the-art command and control centre will serve as a centralized hub for monitoring and managing various aspects of the city’s safety and security.

“The command and control centre will enable the city police to effectively coordinate and respond to emergencies, monitor traffic and maintain law and order,” said a senior police official.

East Nagpur MLA Krishna Khopde, municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari, district collector Vipin Itankar, and Smart City’s CEO Anchal Goyal among others were present at the programme which was also attended by joint CP Aswati Dorje and PI Kavita Isarkar.
