The Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) has set up an emergency operation centre at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the civic body’s headquarters, to provide a centralised system for disaster management in view of the Kumbh Mela to be held in 2027.

The centre, costing Rs 59 crore, was inaugurated by NMSCDCL CEO Sumant More.

It has been equipped with CCTV cameras and a public address system.

NMSCDCL officials said they were in the process of issuing a letter to the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) to hand over the centre to commence operations. “A total of 150 public address systems have been set up at 75 locations so far. We are in the process of installing 50 public address systems more at 25 spots,” an official said.

NMSCDCL CEO More said the public address systems have been set up at crowded spots or near junctions in the city. “The systems will help NMC make announcements in case of an emergency or traffic issues,” More said, adding, “Twenty monitors with large screens will be operated by as many operators.”

The Nashik Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (NMPML) is also installing 200 CCTV cameras to be connected with the emergency response centre. These CCTVs are in addition to the 800 cameras installed by the smart city corporation in the first phase. “Of the 200 CCTVs, we have installed 150 at various spots. The remaining are to be installed in the next few days,” More said.

He said the system would come handy to manage the crowd during the Kumbh Mela to be held in 2027.
