The police in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar are set to enhance surveillance capabilities with the integration of drone technology with the command control centre.
The initiative is part of the safe city project under the Aurangabad Smart City Project, aimed at improving the city’s security and maintaining peace and harmony.
As part of this initiative, dedicated squads have been formed in each of the 17 police stations in the city, as well as at the police headquarters.These squads will be responsible for operating the drones and monitoring the footage captured by them. The drones were officially handed over to the city police on Thursday. Civic body administrator G Sreekanth handed them over to commissioner of police Sandeep Patil.
The surveillance and patrolling carried out by these drones will be relayed to large screens at the command and control room, which is operated from the police commissioner’s office premises. This centralized monitoring system will allow the police to respond quickly to any incidents or emergencies.
Sreekanth said the drones will be a game-changer for the city police. He said geofencing technology has been used while tailoring these drones to ensure that they do not breach the privacy of sensitive and secured zones.
Police commissioner Patil echoed Sreekanth’s sentiments. He said the drones will assist the police in various aspects of their work, including aerial surveillance and reconnaissance, crime scene investigation, traffic management and accident reconstruction, crowd monitoring and control, search and rescue operations, hostage situations, and providing support to special units.
The drones provided to the city police are equipped with advanced features. They have a quad system and are installed with searchlights, public announcement systems, and drop mechanism options. The drones also have the ability to attach radio or cell phones, have a dual controller option, and are capable of carrying heavy payloads up to 15 kg.
