The Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) has begun the second phase of installation of CCTV cameras recently with 250 cameras.
Around 125 CCTV cameras will be installed at 60 black spots across the city where erring city residents tend to dump garbage. This initiative is part of measures to deter residents from dumping garbage at these black spots.
The remaining cameras will be installed in the low-lying areas of Godavari and its tributaries to monitor water levels.
The optical fiber cable (OFC) lines are being laid by BSNL to connect all the CCTV cameras in the city. This will enable them to go live at the two command and control rooms at the Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the headquarters of the NMC, and at the police commissionerate. They are expected to become operational in the first week of July.
NMSCDCL CEO, Sumant More, said, “Additional 125 CCTV cameras are also to be installed at various locations in low-lying areas of the Godavari and its three tributaries. This will aid the civic body during flooding in the monsoon season.”
“We are expecting all the additional CCTV cameras to be installed within a month or two,” More said. “The smart city officials said all the CCTV cameras will be made operational by the first week of July through the OFC lines of BSNL, which has been given the contract by the smart city company,” said the smart city company CEO.
“There are around 60 black spots of garbage across the city where residents dump household waste on the open or along the roads. The civic body aims to identify the erring residents and fine them,” a smart city official said.
In the first phase that began in April, the smart city company installed 800 CCTV cameras at 320 locations across the city. These locations were identified by both the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and police authorities.
