Following a surprise inspection that revealed uncleanliness and malfunctioning units, Raipur Smart City has taken strong action to address the issue of poorly maintained e-toilets in the city by taking over their maintanence. The agency responsible, Hope for Humanity, has been removed from its role.
With an aim to provide convenience to the people and assure proper sanitation practices, E-toilets in the city had been constructed, whose contract of maintenance was initially given to a Hyderabad private company which after a year went bankrupt.Then Hope for Humanity took over, but they couldn't keep up, and many toilets got damaged, said an official.
After the surprise inspection of the 32 e-toilets across the city by the managing director of the smart city, Abinash Mishra, it was discovered that the toilets were in severely bad condition in terms of maintenance. Following the failure of two previous attempts to tackle this issue, the municipal corporation has decided to take over the maintenance of the e-toilets.
With an amount of 2.5 crores, a total of 32 e-toilets were built in the year 2020 across the capital city, added the release.
