Trichy Corporation reaches a significant milestone with 78 out of 83 infrastructure projects completed under the Smart Cities Mission, promising a transformation in urban infrastructure and sanitation conditions.

Under the Smart Cities Mission programme, Trichy Corporation marks a significant milestone, completing 78 out of 83 sanctioned infrastructure projects with an investment of '965.1 crore. These projects, ranging from major drinking water augmentation schemes to the rehabilitation of the underground drainage (UGD) network, aim to bolster the city's infrastructure, with the full completion expected by June 2024.

Revolutionizing Urban Infrastructure

Among the completed projects are multi-level car parking (MLCP) facilities, renovated fish markets, and refurbished public parks, significantly enhancing the city's urban landscape. Additionally, the drinking water projects are set to increase supply by an additional 30 MLD for core city areas, focusing on renovating existing facilities and constructing new storage capacities. This initiative is crucial for ensuring water availability, especially during peak summer months, with work on new surface-level water tanks and the replacement of old motors underway.

Addressing Sewage Challenges

The UGD rehabilitation project, a critical component of the Smart Cities Mission, is nearing completion. This project aims to alleviate frequent sewer clogging issues in old city areas by extending the sewage network and improving maintenance facilities. With 80% of the work already completed, this initiative promises to significantly improve sanitation conditions in the city. The installation of inspection chambers in UGD connections is also part of the effort to prevent solid waste from blocking sewers, showcasing the corporation's commitment to a cleaner, more efficient sewage system.

Future Prospects and Completion

The remaining projects, including two major drinking water augmentation schemes and the final phases of the UGD network rehabilitation, are on track for completion between March and June 2024. Mayor Mu Anbalagan's assurance of expediting the pending work reflects the administration's dedication to completing these projects within the set timeline. As Trichy Corporation moves closer to completing its infrastructure overhaul, the city stands on the brink of an urban transformation that promises a better quality of life for its residents.

The implementation of these projects under the Smart Cities Mission illustrates a proactive approach to urban development, setting a benchmark for other cities in India. With the majority of the projects already completed, Trichy is poised to emerge as a model of smart urbanization, showcasing the potential for sustainable development and enhanced living standards in Indian cities.
