The Smart City corporation in Nashik, which has already installed 700 CCTVs at important chowks across the city, has plans to install 250 additional cameras.
Red light violation detection (RLVD) and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras will be installed at 10 of the major traffic signals including Gadkari Chowk, Dwarka junction and others.
Earlier, only 40 of the 700 CCTVs cameras installed in the city had RLVD and ANPR cameras. They were installed at two traffic signals – Meher point and CBS junction.
The smart city officials said they have planned these 250 additional cameras following suggestions from the police administration.
All these CCTVs will be linked to the command and control rooms (CCR) at three locations — Panchavati divisional office building of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), police commissionerate and NMC headquarters at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan. All the CCTVs will go live by the end of February, 2024. These cameras will help the cops spot the vehicles violating red signals and the number plates of vehicles concerned.
BSNL is already in the process of laying optical fibre cables to integrate all the cameras. Of 200km length of optical fibre cable required, 100km length has already been laid, and the work on the remaining stretch has started.
The Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) has identified 335 locations for the installation of CCTVs, which include traffic signals, road squares, major chowks etc.
While the NMC administration has identified 110 locations like hospitals, gardens, water treatment plants etc, the city police too have identified 225 locations, which include the 47 junctions on different roads, market places and crime-prone spots.
The CCTV cameras are being installed under the Smart and Safe Nashik project. They will help control robberies, terrorist activities and agitations.
