Urban planning, heritage conservation, low-carbon pathways, heat stress management, water and waste management are some innovative approaches to combat urban climate challenges, said experts on the last day of the international URBCARE conference organized by the faculty of architecture and planning, AKTU on Thursday.

“In the last decade, we have paced up our urban strategies and we have started a number of schemes to meet the urban climate challenges.

One of the major missions we started to tackle the urban challenge which focused on the use of technology is the ‘Smart Cities’ mission. UP has 670 projects lined up in the 17 municipal corporations for smart cities,” said principal secretary Amrit Abhijaat of urban development, UP.

Dean and principal faculty of architecture, AKTU, Vandana Sehgal said, “This has been an incredible conference with a lot of interesting speakers from around the world and these dialogues help policymakers who are faced with the challenge of climate change,”

Net Zero urban programme and decarbonization innovation exchange lead, global decarbonization center, KPMG, Belgium Jorn Verbeeck presented his keynote on cities, climate, innovation and sustainability.
