The entire procession of Ganpati immersion will for the first time be monitored from the command-and-control room at the city police commissionerate.

The Nashik Smart City Cell has completed installation of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at eight chowks and spots that are part of the procession route.

A meeting between the city police and officials from the Smart City cell was recently held during which the demand for installation of CCTV cameras were made. A senior police officer said, “The commissioner of police had suggested that 12 CCTV cameras should be installed at eight different locations along the procession route. These cameras are other than the traffic signals where the CCTV coverage has already been set up. Areas that have no camera coverage were identified and help for streaming footage from the CCTVs at local shops and establishments was sought from the Smart City.”

He added, “There was a prompt reply for our demand by the Smart City Cell headed by chief executive officer (CEO) Sumant More. The cameras have now been installed and their feed will be monitored from the command and control room. This will help us monitor not only the movements of the Ganpati mandals, but also of those who are trying to creating trouble.”

The officer further pointed out that same feed would also help them keep an eye on pickpockets who try to take advantage of the crowd for committing crimes.
