The state capital has climbed 17 notches, since its last half-yearly assessment, to rank 24 among 100 cities evaluated on the basis of projects completed under the Smart City mission.
According to guidelines set by the ministry of housing and urban affairs, which releases these pan-India rankings, the more projects a city completes within stipulated time, the higher position it secures.
Lucknow Municipal Corporation officials said, following the Union ministry guidelines, the civic body had set for itself a target of 10 Smart City projects between October 1, 2019, and March 1, 2020.
Among these, the LMC completed seven — a smart bus shelter, a command and control centre, smart roads, pelican crossings, an e-library, compactors at open dumping points and merchandised sweeping of roads. The three other projects underway are area-based development of Kaiserbagh, smart parking and installing automatic variable signboards to guide commuters.
“Area-based development in Kaiserbagh is going on at a rapid pace. Also, we are going to float tenders for automatic commuter signboards by the end of this month,” said general manager, Smart City projects, Fareed Zaidi.
In terms of UP cities, Lucknow has dropped a rank though. Compared to its fourth position in the state in the last assessment, the city stands fifth this time after Agra (1st), Kanpur (3rd), Varanasi (7th) and Prayagraj (12th).
