Databases of different government departments to be synchronised soon.

The Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency has authorised the use of Aadhaar number for establishing the identity of individuals for various government schemes.

According to a notification issued by the Commissioner of e-Governance, residents can register their Aadhaar numbers with the State Resident Data Hub (SRDH) portal and give their consent for sharing of the details with other departments. In case of changes, the same shall be carried out in the databases of the respective departments too.

“Presently, government departments seek Aadhaar number from beneficiaries and use them only for that scheme, since it cannot be shared with other departments. This notification would mean that if the residents give their consent, the details and changes, if any, shall be made in the database of other departments too,” explained D. Mahesh Kumar, Joint Director of the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency.

The SRDH has obviated the need to approach different departments for changing or correcting demographic data individually by synchronising core elements of the databases like name and address. Hence, the government has now issued a notification under Section 57 of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016, to enable residents to use the unique identity number for carrying out changes across departments.

To begin with, the SRDH would coordinate with the civil supplies (public distribution scheme card), elections (electoral photo identity card), transport (driving licence), treasuries and accounts (pension).
