The district administration of Gautam Budh Nagar has widened the ambit of services that would be made available to citizens through the e-district project. "We have included more services to be made available to citizens under this project, like pension for the handicapped," said district magistrate Deepak Aggarwal.

At present, citizens of the district avail of six services through the project. These include procuring caste certificates, domicile certificates, birth and death certificates, and ration cards. The e-district services were launched in December 2008.

Five e-district service centres or Jan Suvidha Kendras are functional in the district now with one each in the three tehsil headquarters, one at the district collectorate in Surajpur and one in the office of the city magistrate in sector 19. However, the district administration is now decentralising these services by opening several such centres.

"We are decentralising e-district services by opening 16 additional centres shortly," said the DM. The number of centres will be further extended to 38.

Various departments in the district are at present digitizing data for extending services through this project. "A new IT company has been given the contract to digitize data for various companies," said SDM (Dadri) Vishal Singh. "Once fully operational, it will save citizens from making multiple rounds to offices to avail different services," he added.

The e-district project is a state mission mode project under the national e-governance plan and targets to e-enable delivery of high-volume services through common service centres.
