As an NDMC official puts it, any and every detail of teachers and students from the time they join to the time they leave, will be included in the smart card. “The move is meant to observe qualitative improvements in education, where material related to schools can be accessed online,” the official added.
Attendance, however, is only one of the many things that the card can take care of. The software developed would incorporate admissions, examinations, library attendance, billing, supplies and purchases, inventory and human resource management among other things.
The cards will contain information on the profile of students or teachers, progress cards, health and vaccination details and assessment of students by teachers. An NDMC official said special computers will be placed in each NDMC school where the cards can be operated. “It is necessary that we move towards e-governance to bring transparency,” the official said.
At present, NDMC has roughly 2,000 teachers and 35,000 students. The project is expected to transform the NDMC school environment by providing efficient and integrated e-governance services for students, parents, teachers and the school management.
The NDMC council is yet to approve the proposal, but if passed, the plan will be introduced in two to three NDMC schools and depending on the results, will be introduced in the rest.
