The computerisation of the panchayats' routine works would be completed at an outlay of Rs.1.5 crore, Local Administration and Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao informed the territorial Assembly yesterday.
Three village panchayats would be chosen for a cash award of Rs.5 lakh each for best services in providing potable water, proper sanitation and solid waste management.
An integrated solid waste management project would be launched in collaboration with the management of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, he said.
A project report seeking Rs.4 crore from the Mission had already been submitted for its implementation in Puducherry and Oulgaret municipal limits and in parts of Ariyankuppam and Villianoor commune panchayats.
The territorial government would release 20 per cent of the cost of the project on its part in two phases, he said.
Meanwhile, vehicles would be purchased at a cost of Rs.5 crore to enable members of various self help groups to take up garbage cleaning work in villages.
Rao said that 5000 volunteers of self help groups (300 in Puducherry and 2000 in Karaikal region) would be trained in honing their capacity to administer the units.
Three-hundred houses under Indira Awas Yojana Scheme would be constructed at a cost of Rs.1 lakh each.
