Transforming Government since 2001
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has moved a step closer to introduction of e-governance. Today’s meeting of the mayor-in-council okayed a proposal for purchasing a ‘central server’ that will help the municipal body in offering many online services.

Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya said after the meeting that among the final two bidders for implementation of the project, the council has given its consent to one bidder. The two parties had made offers worth Rs 51 crore and Rs 70 crore for setting up the server.

After negotiations, a leading information and computer systems company has cracked the deal at a price of Rs 36.5 crore. The company will not only set up the server at a centrally located municipal office, but will also help in linking the server to other nodes. It will help the municipal body to offer online services and also to strengthen its already growing electronic network among the head office and its numerous offices across the city.

“The company will also be responsible for technical back-up for the next 10 years once the project is handed over to the company for implementation. The move is a part of the ongoing e-governance programme being carried out,” Bhattacharya said.
