The much-hyped e-governance project—Lokvani—--is yet to see the light of the day.

The scheme, aimed at providing advantage of Right To Information Act to the common people, was supposed to be expanded to all the 10 blocks of the city so that the people from far off villages could also get its advantage. But due to insufficient technical support and manpower, the plan could not be implemented.

In May 2005, the chief secretary had given orders to start Lokvani scheme in all the districts of the State. Following this, except two or three districts, the plan was implemented in all the districts of the State last year.

Last year, two teams formed under the leadership of chief development officer were sent to Ghaziabad to prepare a report on the scheme’s implementation. The teams have submitted their report.

Apart from this, in May, a society was also formed under the leadership of District Magistrate Anurag Srivastava, which included the officials from collectorate, police and National Information Centre.

A Lokvani centre was also set up at the collectorate office. According to Lokvani centre incharge UK Tripathi, due to lack of technical manpower, the centre could not be started.

CDO Ramswaroop said to activate the Lokvani centre, it would take at least two months’ time.

Under this plan, all the 18 government and semi-government departments would be connected through one centre. After this, with the help of cyber cafes, it would be extended to 10 blocks of the city.
