In a significant leap towards sustainable urban transformation, six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed on Wednesday, heralding a new era for the ambitious Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) project here.
The agreements were executed by Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, led by chairman Teo Ah King, in collaboration with a consortium of prominent companies, including the China Energy Engineering Group Guangxi Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd, Shandong Yutong Road and Bridge Group Co. Ltd, Shandong Tianhua Industry Co. Ltd, Shandong Dawang Energy Development Co. Ltd, and UBlok Advanced Materials Co. Ltd.
The essence of KSC lies in its progressive vision, combining smart technology, sustainable energy, and urban innovation to redefine the landscape of Miri.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Miri mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang.
At the heart of this initiative is a landmark partnership with CEEC-GXED, a Fortune 500 leader in global infrastructure, which will spearhead a dedicated green energy project to power the smart city operations.
This strategic collaboration is a cornerstone of the Sarawak government’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, positioning KSC as a flagship smart city initiative.
The project promises to integrate state-of-the-art Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and 5G technologies, creating a pioneering urban ecosystem.
The development will also host world-class educational facilities, including an Innovation and Research Centre established in partnership with the Institutes of Integrative Medicine of Fudan University.
This initiative will further enrich the educational landscape of the region. Alongside its technological ambitions, KSC will boast a wealth of cultural and business amenities, including the Kenyalang Convention and Exhibition Centre, a Performing Arts Centre, and a Cultural Heritage Museum.
These facilities are set to position Miri as the premier destination in northern Sarawak for business, innovation, and cultural exchange.
The project’s renewable energy foundations, smart urban design, and international academic partnerships establish KSC as a benchmark for sustainable urban development across the ASEAN region.
By attracting global investments and fostering high-value employment opportunities, Kenyalang Smart City is poised to catalyse Sarawak’s transition into a digital, low-carbon economy while establishing new paradigms for future urban developments.
Most crucially, KSC aims to create meaningful job opportunities for local communities. It promises to redefine lifestyle living by marrying modern convenience with environmental consciousness, technological advancement with cultural preservation, and economic prosperity with quality of life.
As plans unfold, the Kenyalang Smart City project stands ready to lead Sarawak into a sustainable future.
