The i-City smart city project in Selangor is setting the standard for other developers to emulate with its innovations and forward-thinking implementation of technological infrastructure.
Malaysia’s leading Technology City has been actively taking technological-based initiatives to ensure a fully integrated experience for residents, visitors and investors.
Innovations here include an autonomous shuttle system to enhance this transit-oriented development.
It is a good role model that others should try to emulate, said Selangor executive councillor for industry and trade Teng Chang Khim while expressing pride in i-City’s progress since its conception in 1995.
“I first started dealing with i-City when I was representing the squatters here.
“I am very proud of the success of the development and I believe it will undoubtedly make Selangor a major player in the development of digitalisation.
“On the development front, i-City has introduced new concepts, and some of them are very innovative.
“Everyone, including the state government, has put a lot of effort into this development in Selangor to ensure that the project runs smoothly and is the i-City that you see today.
“We are indeed very proud to have this in Selangor,” he said.
Teng witnessed a strategic alliance signing on Jan 25 between i-City Properties and China-owned telecommunications firm China Mobile International, to accelerate i-City with smart infrastructures.
According to i-City Properties director Monica Ong, this partnership will add value to i-City’s ecosystem and reinvent the next generation of AI smart cities.
Better demand and higher value appreciation for its property was expected, she said, as it offered the community a digital lifestyle convenience for working, playing and living.
Despite economic uncertainties brought on by the pandemic, Teng said Selangor was focused on becoming a hub for potential investors looking to expand their investments in Malaysia while seeking solid foothold in the Asean region and global markets.
“We are always eager to collaborate with a visionary like Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong, whose vision has shaped i-City into what it is today.
“We are looking at developing smart city technology and hope to collaborate with i-City to create a smart city in Selangor.
“This is part of our smart Selangor strategy to transform the state into a regional smart state and a sizeable budget has been set aside for this,” said Teng.
He said emphasis had also been placed on the development of the aerospace and biotech industries.
“We will be working on green technology development and believe we can play a significant role in this area in Malaysia.
“With i-City’s development and commitment over the years, we believe we can have a fruitful collaboration,” he added.
Teng highlighted that Selangor had created a concept known as a managed industrial park in order to attract new investments to the state.
“We plan to develop our managed industrial park using i-City as a model, and we believe it will be a success in attracting investors,” he added.
