Transforming Government since 2001
The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia welcomes the recommendations by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak who outlined 11 measures towards reducing national expenditure in the public sector.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said in order to realise the recommendations, his ministry would fully exploit the use of the information and communication technology (ICT) to implement and convey government policies to the target group in a more rapid and accurate manner.

"Through the use of the ICT, the government no longer needs to incur high expenses in providing banners, buntings or advertisement boards for official events and save on cost.

"ICT technology also makes it possible to send information to the target groups in a simpler, faster and accurate manner," he told reporters when met here yesterday.

Ahmad Shabery said the ministry, together with the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) in the Prime Minister's Department, would propose and coordinate the use of ICT in a wider manner to the other ministries.

He said the use of electronic mail (e-mail), video conferencing, Skype, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and so on were seen as the best saving measures.

He also supported the government's move to reduce the allowances of ministers, deputy ministers and top government officials by 10% as an effort to help in boosting the national economy.

The newspapers yesterday reported that various groups had welcomed the announcement by the Prime Minister to take measures in reducing expenditure.
