He said more than 500 individuals and 1,288 small and medium enterprises were involved in the programmes that were carried out.
"It is my hope that programmes like these will continue to be carried out and expanded nationwide to enable more entrepreneurs and companies to benefit," he said in his speech at the opening of the NEF-Awani Award 2013 here last night.
The text of the prime minister's speech was read by Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
Najib said the advancement of the ICT technology, which is an important contributor to the country's economic growth, had narrowed the economic gap between the developed and developing countries.
He hoped NEF would continue with its efforts so that more competitive bumiputera entrepreneurs in the field could be produced.
He said the success of the 'Malaysian Toon' programme last Dec 13 showed the ability and capability of bumiputera companies.
"This can encourage the production of high-quality and competitive products as well as with potential to penetrate international markets," he added.
The NEF-Awani Award, held for the third year, is aimed at promoting SMEs with high potential in the industry, as well as to act as a platform to introduce products and local companies to the international level.
