Miri mayor Lawrence Lai said such support is needed in order to ensure the objectives set by the government through implementation of ICT development can be fully achieved.
Lai pointed the greater convenience of internet web development in all business levels championed by the government such as e-banking, e-payment and e-government had contributed to a surge in the number of users.
“Looking to the future, there is a need for us to be sensitive to all ICT related development proposed by the government,” he stated in his address when officiating at the 2013 Sarawak ICT Expo at Miri Indoor Stadium here yesterday.
Commenting on the expo, he said the Computer Sales and Services Association (CSSA) Sarawak Miri branch has partnered with Miri City Council (MCC) in organising the expo for 12 years now.
“Organising this expo with much improved programme by increasing scope of exhibitors which included mobile telephone and telecommunication sector together with audio visual and household appliances on top of ICT sector has foster closer relationship between ICT related industries to bring convenience and greater choices for visitors to this expo.”
He was glad to see that CSSA Sarawak Miri branch has continued to grow in terms of their scope of expo which included other sectors.
Most of all, the association have also grown in their generosity towards shoppers by introducing five new events and lucky draws to reward shoppers.
“As for ICT developments in the city, I hope CSSA Sarawak will be able to become a consultative partner in our local government as well as we welcome suggestions and inputs from your association on how best to develop ICT industry in the city.”
“Your ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated and I hope they can be implemented, especially if it is going to be beneficial to Mirians.”
He hoped that the association will continue to be active as a partner in the government’s initiative and will work closely with the authorities to bring benefits to members.
