MYEG executive chairman Datuk Dr Norraesah Mohamad said the online vehicle ownership transfer system will absolve previous owners from any matters pertaining to the car during the ‘transitional phase’ before it is sold to the next owner.
The transfer of vehicle ownership e-Government service consists of two phases – temporary e-transfer of ownership where ownership of the vehicle is transferred to the used car dealers and voluntary e-transfer of ownership, where the ownership is transferred to the eventual buyer.
The first phase was launched earlier this month and car owners can now process their ownership transfers at financial institutions instead of going to the Road Transport Department (RTD) or through middlemen.
There are said to be approximately one million car ownership transfer transactions annually and one million motorcycle ownership transfer transactions. Online insurance and vehicle road tax renewals became one of the group’s main revenue drivers in the past year.
On its aim to secure the government concession to manage service tax collections by 2013, MYEG managing director Wong Thean Soon said: “We see this revenue driver doing as well as our road tax renewal and become an important contributor.
“RTD services make up 60% of MYEG annual revenue contribution while 15% comes from bankruptcy searches.”
MYEG is also looking at expanding the range of services for RTD, Immigration Department of Malaysia and Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
