Transforming Government since 2001
The information communication technology (ICT) industry can elevate the rural people to a higher level. Kapit member of parliament, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, said that with broadband centres set up in rural areas by the government, the people can now acquire latest the information on the economy, social matters, technology, training, education, career and knowledge.

“If our society is knowledgeable, then the efforts to push for the agenda of the electronic government or e-Government and knowledgeable workers or e-Workers will be easier,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of 2010 Song District Skills and Career Training Programme (PLKK)-Computer Skills Utilisation and Maintenance held in the library of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) in Sibu Jaya.

The 10-day programme was jointly organised by the Song District office and Human Resource Development together with Quality Unit in the Chief Minister’s Department (HRDQU).

Alexander said that with wider usage of ICT, the delivery services in the public and private sectors became fast and effective because the transactions were done online.

Thus the cost of physical transactions through counters and agencies which offer automated services could be saved, he said

On the programme, he hoped all the 16 participants would set a goal and draw an action plan to utilise the acquired skills to improve the learning ability of school children.

“For the participants who are school leavers, I hope the skills acquired would be able to assist them in performing well in their jobs.”

According to him, ICT has been expanding rapidly in the nation but in rural areas it is still hard to find computer technicians who can do the maintenance works on personal computer systems.

“Therefore the PLKK training for the participants including selected school leavers from Song District is timely. In addition, I strongly invite the participants to courageously involve themselves in knowledge-based and skill-based industries.”

Thus he advised the participants to discard the attitude which would stop them from learning and working.

Song District Officer, Galong Luang , HRDQU’s director’s representative. Dr Zufar Yadi and Deputy chairman of Kapit District Council, Jefferson Jamit were also present.
