Transforming Government since 2001
The “ultimate” government service is for it to be accessible and mobile so the public can get things done in the simplest and shortest manner.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan said a five-star service by the Government was not about pampering, but to ensure that services could be given in the most efficient manner.

“If we can do that at every level of our internal and external transactions by using the best that technology and innovation can bring, we would have taken public service delivery to a whole new level, not only in Malaysia but globally, setting new benchmarks,” he said when speaking at an executive talk organised by Microsoft yesterday.

Sidek added that a mobile government meant that customers could carry out transactions with the Government from “where they are and not from where the providers are”.

Microsoft Corporation chief executive officer Steve Ballmer said information technology would continue to be the engine of growth for economies in the future as it had done for the past 50 years.

“It is incredible how the use of IT can improve services, including that provided by the Government, and boost productivity,” he said, adding that US$9.5bil (RM29.5bil) had been allocated by Microsoft this year for research and development.

Ballmer also announced that Microsoft Online Services was now available in Malaysia, the first emerging economy in the region that now has access to the company’s full range of Cloud Computing capabilities.
