Google Public Sector is launching Gemini for government services, an agentic AI solution, which it claims is tailored for the requirements and workflows of government agencies.
The enterprise-grade solution combines the foundational Gemini platform with specialised skills for government personnel, data connectors to frequently used systems, and an expanding partner ecosystem of third-party agents.
Federal, state, and local governments
It is initially available in preview for US federal, state, and local governments, and is already being used by select federal and state agencies, including the State of Missouri and the US Department of Health and Human Services.
“Our citizens expect the government to move at the speed of modern life, not the speed of paperwork,” said Tim Marczewski, director of AI and innovation for the State of Missouri Office of Administration. “By automating routine work in our workflows, we’re delivering faster, better services to Missourians.”
Gemini for government services is the latest offering in a series of specialised, packaged industry solutions built on top of the Gemini platform. Each industry solution aims to deliver out-of-the-box, domain-specific, purpose-built agentic capabilities, which may include tailored agents, specialised skills that provide simple shortcuts to manage a variety of workflows, data connectors, and model optimisations tailored for a specific industry.
Government agencies face the dual challenge of managing tight operational budgets while meeting rising citizen expectations for fast, accessible, and transparent services. Administrative backlogs, siloed legacy IT systems, and complex regulatory environments often tie up civil servants in repetitive data entry and manual document review rather than focusing their expertise on delivering the essential services that citizens depend on. Further, agencies must navigate strict requirements around data sovereignty, compliance, and confidentiality.
Engineered specifically for these unique requirements, Gemini for government services is designed to meet the highest security and compliance standards required by US government agencies. Through secure integrations directly into core agency systems of record, an agency’s existing identity and access management controls are automatically inherited.
Google said, instead of guessing, Gemini for government services pulls answers directly from official regulations and the agency’s actual files, linking back to the exact source so personnel can easily double-check the facts before making a decision. Most importantly, an agency’s sensitive data and constituent records stay isolated in alignment with their agency’s specific security and compliance protocols.
“To deploy agentic capabilities in the public sector requires non-negotiable standards for security, confidentiality, and data sovereignty,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud. “Gemini for government services provides a secure environment for agencies to automate workflows, allowing civil servants to focus on delivering the responsive, high-quality services that citizens expect.”
Gemini for government services delivers an integrated, secure environment configured for rapid deployment with four core components:
- Purpose-built skills for agentic work: purpose-built, pre-loaded, specialised skills that guide agents through complex administrative workflows, including digesting federal and state regulations, optimising acquisition and procurement processes, and helping agency personnel evaluate vendor qualifications
- Connectors: secure integrations into essential platforms that federal, state, and local government employees use regularly, including collaboration tools like Google Workspace, Microsoft Sharepoint, Outlook 365, Salesforce and ServiceNow, alongside specialised tools that support interactions with government systems, like Federal Regulations (eCFR, regulations.gov, and the Federal Register) by BLEN, and custom connectors to Oracle enterprise apps such as Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications
- Third-party agents and partner ecosystem: access to a specialised network of government technology providers building on the platform, alongside leading consulting partners and systems integrators, including Accenture Federal Services, Clutch, Dark Wolf, Daston, Deloitte, Egen, Game Plan Tech, Knexus, Onix, Resultant, SAIC, Slalom and SZNS Solutions
- Secure and governable Gemini platform: it provides a centralised control plane for IT and risk teams with full visibility. Risk management, audit logging, and governance are built natively into the platform architecture.
By shifting from simple text generation to true agentic task execution, Gemini for government services helps automate and accelerate complex government operations, including:
- Policy interpretation and regulatory adherence: accelerates decision-making and helps support compliance across complex administrative environments. This workflow enables agency personnel to instantly query dense federal statutes, state administrative codes, and internal policy transmittals to retrieve grounded, synthesised answers complete with pinpoint page and paragraph citations, helping administrative personnel make the right decisions, faster.
- Procurement and compliance support: automates the task of cross-referencing multi-volume vendor bids against complex Request for Proposal (RFP) guidelines and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), helping contracting officers quickly identify qualification gaps, score submissions against standardised rubrics, and generate auditable decision justifications.
- Constituent engagement, plain language translation, and document intake: reduces application backlogs to help agency personnel deliver clear, accessible public communications. Classify and mathematically validate citizen-submitted proof documents (such as paystubs, W-2s, and lease agreements), and translate complex regulatory jargon into empathetic citizen notices to help support compliance with the Federal Plain Writing Act of 2010 and other relevant state and federal regulations.
Gemini for government services is built on Google’s end-to-end, first-party stack, spanning global infrastructure, custom silicon, foundation models, and an AI-ready data platform. Throughout the stack, agency and citizen data, prompts, and outputs stay within the organisation’s cloud perimeter, and base models are never trained on customer data without
