The City of Imperial became Thursday the first smart city in the county.
In a press conference held on December 12 at Eager Park, city officials said the city is being transformed by leveraging technology to improve the quality of life for all our residents.
By ensuring equitable access to high-speed broadband internet, the city is closing the gap and providing all residents with the resources they need to thrive in the digital age, the city said.
“This project enhances the reliability of city services with connected technologies that help our dedicated workforce perform efficiently and deliver the high-quality service you’ve come to expect,” the city said.
The Smart City project includes 44 high-definition cameras across the city to enhance community safety, five IoT (Internet of Things) light control devices in our parks, and 28 Wi-Fi hotspots offering free, high-speed internet to residents.
Residents can find Wi-Fi hotspots using the city's new GIS app on the website.
Thanks to the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, this project has become a reality, the city said. Big shoutout to the City Council and the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) for acting on this incredible opportunity, the city said.
During the event, the city officially “flip the switch” on Imperial’s Wireless Broadband Network.
