Kentucky Interactive Inc. has been awarded a two-year contract by the Governor's Office for Technology to build and manage an e-government Web portal at http://kentucky.gov. Under the agreement, Kentucky Interactive, a Frankfort, Ky.-based subsidiary of NIC Inc. (Nasdaq: EGOV), will launch a newly designed Web site for the state by late spring.

NIC, based in Overland Park, Kan., provides Web portal and outsourcing services in Kentucky and 17 other states.

As part of the contract, Kentucky Interactive will provide hosting services for the 130 existing interactive applications on Kentucky's e-government Web site. The company also will integrate current and future services into the expanded portal, the release said.

"More and more citizens and businesses are developing an online relationship with the commonwealth," Aldona Valicenti, Kentucky's chief information officer, said in the release. "Kentucky is committed to keeping pace with their needs and improving the efficiency of state government. By partnering with NIC, we will be able to build additional e-government services at minimal cost to Kentucky taxpayers."
