The town of Rose Hill has applied for a partnership with the Local E-Government Utilization Project in hopes of getting the town better geared up for giving taxpayers and other inquiring minds information about the town.

According to Rose Hill town administrator Tom Drum, this is something the board wanted to do to get the town more Internet involved.

This project, LEG-UP, is designed as a "targeted, multi-phase effort that encompasses different elements" to bring e-government to all counties in the state.

The town is committing to providing the personnel and facilities to allow access to information to any taxpayers or citizens in the town. Drum said this program will allow the town of Rose Hill will communicate with other towns and counties in North Carolina about their government.

E-government allows for information about all towns in the state to be accessible to anyone on the Internet. Only public information will be accessible, Drum said.

"For example, if a business wants to locate in Rose Hill, they can go on this system and find out how much water pumps through the town daily," Drum said. "They can find out if there is enough to locate their business in Rose Hill."

The project would benefit 660 households in Rose Hill and 87 businesses.

Drum said since Tom Reaves would be managing the project, there wouldn't be any personnel costs, therefore the project would cost the town little, if anything at all. The new library will be provided as the facility.

During Tuesday night's Rose Hill board meeting, Drum said the application was approved by Mayor Clarence Brown Sr. and signed by both the mayor and Drum.

Drum said the board gave their full support of the project, but no voting action was taken, as there was nothing to be voted on at the time.

"The board gave their blessings and we have official submitted the application for the project," Drum said.
