Five agencies were recognized this week for innovative technology programs that could serve as models for future work in e-government. The Defense Department, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Navy, the Transportation Department, and the U.S. Postal Service received Excellence.Gov awards at the E-Gov Web-Enabled Government conference in Washington, D.C.
The winning programs are:
- TranStats, developed by DOT's Bureau of Transportation Statistics, is a Web portal that offers one-stop access to transportation data managed by multiple agencies.
- The Federal Parent Locator Service, developed by HHS' Administration for Children and Families, gives various authorized agencies access to a centralized repository of employment information that helps them enforce child support payments.
- The eBusiness Pilot Project program, managed by the Navy, provides short-term financial support for innovative projects aimed at improving management processes.
- The eFleet Card system, developed by USPS, which integrates a credit solution system with Internet technology to monitor credit card charges for potential fraud, to recover excise taxes from which the agency is exempt, and to provide electronic invoice payments.
- Voting over the Internet, by DOD, for piloting the use of the Internet for absentee voting by personnel based overseas.
