Five agency e-government projects yesterday received best-in-show recognition out of 25 finalists for the Excellence.Gov awards sponsored by the CIO Council, the Industry Advisory Council and E-Gov at the Web-Enabled Conference in Washington. The judges chose the 25 finalists from about 110 nominations of federal e-government projects. The finalists were honored for their impact on the agency, financial and other resource savings realized, the great degree of interagency collaboration and the ability for others to use the same technology.
The winners are:
- The Defense Department’s Voting over the Internet project. It lets citizens overseas cast absentee ballots from any computer with Internet access.
- The Health and Human Services Department’s Administration for Children and Families Federal Parent Locator Service. This service gives authorized agencies access to a database of up-to-date employment information and national child support data to prevent, detect and recover erroneous payments and fraud.
- The Navy Department’s eBusiness Pilot Project. The Navy program funds short-term eBusiness projects including the AutoREAD and Appointment Desk programs. AutoREAD is a field data collection system for maintaining aircraft launch and recovery equipment, and the Appointment Desk project is an automated hospital appointment scheduling system.
- The Postal Service’s eFleet Card System. This system automated and centralized credit card expense monitoring, tax recovery and invoice payment processes across USPS.
- The Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ TransStats database project. This repository provides one-stop shopping for transportation data housed among multiple agencies through a Web portal.
