These regional projects, which are financed by the municipalities, have introduced ICT solutions as part of this priority measure, thus enhancing public sector transparency, accountability and quality of decision making, as well as allowing the strengthening of community and new forms of political expression.
LTL 19.5 million (approx. € 5.6 million) of EU co-funding support has been allocated for these 42 regional projects. Six district municipality administrations have already completed the implementation stage: Trakų, Varėnos, Zarasų, Jonavos, Elektrėnų and Ignalinos. Four more district municipality projects (Šalčininkų, Šakių, Rokiškio and Utenos) are near completion. In a short time, local residents will be able to start using the designed electronic solutions and services.
Among the terminated projects, the Jonava and Utena district municipalities provide good practice examples of fast and timely project implementation, with electronic measures enhancing democracy.
37 out of the 42 regional projects for the development of eDemocracy are targeted for completion in 2011. This major development programme for 2007-2013 is administered in Lithuania by the Information Society Development Committee under the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
