  • GY: China gives US$37.6 million boost to Guyana’s E-Government broadband system

    China on Saturday signed a US$37.6 million agreement to boost Guyana’s broadband access for security surveillance and the provision of remote health care, officials said.

    “This project will see the upgrading of the network to enable an equitable delivery of service in the education, health, security, business and other sectors,” said Guyana’s Foreign Minister shortly after signing the agreement for the Guyana National Broadband Project with China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Wang Yi.

  • GY: Govt signs contract for ICT needs assessment project in rural, hinterland areas

    Communication Technology (ICT) needs assessment project will get underway in hinterland and rural communities in Guyana, following a US$524,00o contract which was signed by the Government of Guyana, Germany-based Detecon Consultancy and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

    Present at the signing o Friday, was Resident UNDP Coordinator, Khadija Musa who co-signed the agreement alongside Minister of Public Telecommunications, Catherine Hughes and Stephan Dieter, Detecon International representative.

  • GY: VAT on Internet data “necessary” – Public Telecoms Minister

    Value Added Tax (VAT) on Internet data will be used to help fund the Guyana government’s Information Communication Technology (ICT), Public Telecommunications Minister Cathy Hughes said Wednesday.

    “The CAT on data has also received harsh criticisms but I want to remind us all that it is a necessary revenue stream given the range of transformational measures I have shared.
