Later contributions by Nikola Tesla and others formed the basis of modern alternating current electric power systems, which helped usher in the second industrial revolution. Their work paved the way for subsequent "game changers" such as lighting, heating, communication and more recently computing.

Ms Giddings said NBN Co was ultimately responsible for the roll-out of the NBN and would determine the timetable for the further expansion of the network in Tasmania.
“We know that Tasmanian communities want to have access to fast and affordable broadband and I would encourage the Federal Government to act quickly to commence the second stage of the roll-out,” Ms Giddings said.
Due to be introduced on 1 July 2012, the planned e-health system will allow patients to manage their own healthcare better and Ms Roxon said the blueprint was a step towards the development of Personally Controlled Electronic Health Records (PCEHR).
“E-health records will drive safer, more efficient and better quality healthcare for Australians,” Ms Roxon said.
In the new e-health records the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Records (PCEHR) will be developed and improved. The government has been planning to introduce the national blueprint since long. It has been confirmed that the new procedure will be completely functional by 1 July 2012.
