Unveiling the plan, the Health Minister, Nicola Roxon, said that every minute detail of a person’s medical record will be combined together through electronic medium in a short form by the mid of the next year.
He further added that the e-health system will be accessible to both patients and physicians only after they enter they unique 16-digit identification number, which will be given to them very soon.
The initiative is a follow-up of the solution to cut medical expenses and save lives by reducing duplication and improving patient care.
Indicating his disbelief over the patient record maintenance by the government, Roxon asserted that the center will just have the overview while the initial details will be kept by individual doctors, pathologists and chemists across the country.
Ms. Roxon further added: "I think it's most likely that the government will need to run that. I don't think there's necessarily a commercial interest for others to be able to set that up. Only the commonwealth has the over-arching interest”.
