Taking smart decisions is as important as collecting and processing smart data for having smart cities, the information and communication technology minister said, IRNA reported.

Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the 2nd Smart Congress at Tehran’s Milad Tower on Monday.

Dean of Management Faculty of University of Tehran Ahmad Sahraei said that Iran has moved up 20 steps in the global ranking of the development of electronic government, standing in the 130th place.

Development of electronic government is one of the main strategies of fighting corruption and in this regard, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is the responsible body for fighting corruption," he added.

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has asked Majlis (the Iranian parliament) to help expand e-government in state-run organization, Mehr reported on Monday.

Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi discussed the issues during the visit of Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani to the ICT ministry on Monday morning.

Iran started issuing smart cards for purchasing gasoline on Monday through “Mobile Government” - the first phase of e-government services project which came on stream in May.

Applicants can register through the application or the website of Mobile Government, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said, Mehr reported.

Iran already enjoys infrastructure for electronic government, Information Technology Organization of Iran (ITO) Secretary General Mehdi Faqihi told the ILNA on Friday.

The e-government is based on citizens’ demands and inquiries, he added.
