The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has issued 19,818 biometric driver's licenses in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis since its inception in 2008.

The Western Regional Licensing Officer of the DVLA, Mr Godson Wemegah, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Takoradi on Tuesday.

The Regional Licensing Officer said the biometric license is intended to check unscrupulous people from selling fake licenses to unsuspecting drivers as well as standardizing the registration of drivers.

New US$30m data center and WAN will link key services under Ghana’s government

A US$30m data center and Wide Area Network (WAN) in Ghana, being built for the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), is almost complete.

Once finished it will link all government agencies, including schools, hospitals, immigration and its police force, together on the one platform.

A report by the Ghana Business Review said both are expected to launch in July this year.

MTN, a mobile phone network has announced a successful landing of their West Africa Cable System (WACS) today, in South La, Accra, Ghana.

Mobile telecommunication giants, MTN Group, says the submarine West Africa Cable System (WACS) that will reduce the cost of connecting the West coast of Africa into the high-speed global telecommunications network successfully landed on the beach in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, on Friday.

It said the WACS cable, which was expected to go commercial in early 2012, had 15 terminal stations along route and was the first ultra high capacity submarine cable system deploying next generation technology to connect Ghana (West Africa) to Europe northward and southbound connecting along the continental coast terminating in South Africa.

The West Africa Cable System (WACS) on Friday landed on the shores of Ghana, gearing the country up for an unprecedented information communication technological revolution.

Touted as the largest design capacity submarine cable to land on the African Continent, the WACS landing will mean increased network capacity for Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) subscribers and an additional diversity for its enterprise customers' Internet Protocol (IP), data and voice communication needs.
