The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) has recommended to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to provide all public junior high schools (JHSs) with furnished computer laboratories.

That, according to the GNECC was to enable students in public JHSs to be able to compete effectively with their counterparts in private JHSs in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Communications, has cut a sod for the construction of a $1.3 million One-Stop Service Center for the Ghana Postal Company.

The Center will provide an integrated administration service center for 20 government service providers including Ghana Post, Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, Ghana Immigration Service and Ghana Police and many others.

The Center is part of Government E-Government Platform Project which will connect and facilitate the easy access to information and communication for all government agencies.

The Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation has distributed 40,000 laptop computers to second cycle institutions under the “Better Ghana Agenda” laptop project instituted by the government in 2010.

Dr Joe Oteng Adjei, the Minister, said 800 senior high schools as well as technical and vocational institutes including private ones and nine regions, excluding the Volta Region, had so far benefited.

Dr Adjei made this known when he presented 1,375 laptop computers to be supplied to 77 SHSs in the Brong-Ahafo Region at a ceremony in Sunyani on Monday.

Professor Clement Dzidonu, President of the Accra Institute of Technology, has attributed the massive unemployment situation the country to the lack of skilled human resource.

He said developing the right human resources for the country would require that the nation shifted to technological training, as it was ICT that ruled the world of today.

Prof Dzidonu made the assertion at a meeting with some journalists in the Western Region to officially introduce the AIT Open University system and other programmes of the school to the region.

A major e-Government Procurement (E-GP) project meant to enhance the country’s procurement processes and block the financial loopholes in the system will begin from January next year.

The project, which will begin as a pilot, is expected to also enhance transparency in the public procurement process; provide a common platform for use by public institutions in public procurement and public financial management; and enhance competition by facilitating increased participation of service providers for government contracts.
