The gesture by China International Water and Electric Corporation was based on a request by the Assembly Member of the area. Though the Legon Electoral Area is regarded as class community it host a lot of less-privileged children who lack access to computers for effective learning I.C.T. It was against this backdrop that the Assembly Member for the area Victoria Esinam Assah-Offei appealed to the Chinese Government through the support of the China International Water and Electric Corporation multinational company to support her community I.C.T. The Assembly Member for the area also encourages parents to support their children in the study of ICT to enhance their skills for national development.
She emphasized that her effort is to get students abreast with the technological age of development. Director of China International Water and Electric Corporation, Mr. Xie Dahu who presented the items pledged the company’s continuous support to the development of education in Ghana. Mr. Xie Dahu, the Director of China International water and Electric Corporation. Mayor of Accra, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, who was a Special Guest at the function, reiterated government’s resolve in ensuring quality education through the teaching and learning of ICT.
He however says government needs the support of corporate organizations to resource community schools. He advised the students to take keen interest in using computers as tools that will help them broaden their horizon by acquiring knowledge and be better equipped to contribute to a better Ghana. The Chinese Counsellor to the republic of Ghana H.E. Mr. Gao Wenzhi a Special Guest, noted that his government is poised towards supporting Ghana with development and ICT is one key area. Also at the function the Chairman for the Westland Resident Association Mr. Kofi Portuphy, the National Coordinator – National Disaster Management Coordinator (NADMO), Mr Kwesi Abeasi a Management Consultant and the Chairman for the Legon Electoral Development Project and other opinion leaders.
