Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council identified cost-savings of over £250,000 (USD$453,484.75) in just two service areas resulting from the implementation of Onyx Software's Customer Resource Management (CRM) product tailored for local government needs. The cost-savings were identified as part of a return on investment study at Knowsley conducted by the National Computer Center (NCC), and the figure is expected to increase as the implementation of CRM in other service areas is analyzed.

Kathleen Heuer, Deputy Asst. Sec. Budget, Technology and Finance U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, will discuss the Federal Health Architecture at the upcoming Digital Healthcare Conference being held June 23, in Madison, Wis. The FHA is a methodology for developing health information interoperability standards and an initiative that will explore ways to implement and support health IT for public health. Beginning this fall, as many 750 former field office employees and 250 contractors will begin new jobs in the Agriculture Department's information technology services organization.

The transfer of jobs to USDA's central IT group is a new phase in the department's effort to create a common computer and network infrastructure for serving the dept's consolidated service centers. There are now 2,762 service centers across the nation, which has more than 2 million farms.

Regulations.gov only scratches the surface of the potential of the e-rulemaking initiative, and existing or new technologies can greatly enhance the project's benefits, according to an outside report.

The Center for Business and Government at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government studied Regulations.gov, one of the Bush administration's 24 e-government initiatives, and outlined prospective technologies and metrics that can evaluate the use of technology. The group conducted two research workshops to make technology and planning recommendations on the initiative, which allows businesses and citizens to find, review and comment on regulations online.

The Treasury Department has gotten the ball rolling on the General Services Administration's eTravel initiative by awarding the first eTravel service contract.

Under the contract, which is expected to surpass $60 million over 10 years, Northrop Grumman will provide online travel service for the department using its GovTrip service. Treasury has one of the largest travel volumes of the 24 agencies that will select providers by the end of the year.
