The Pennsylvania eHealth Partnership Authority announced today that it will conduct a statewide study on the effectiveness of electronically sharing medical records on compliance reporting for diabetic eye exams and glaucoma tests.

The Authority is conducting the study in conjunction with primary eye care providers. The study is focused on the use of DIRECT messaging, a secure email system to send patient medical records and health information to one another.

Telehealth chronic disease self-management programs can be effective for boosting care access to isolated areas, research published this month in Telemedicine and e-Health has determined.

The study's authors--from the University of Toronto, the Women's College Research Institute of Toronto and Public Health Ontario--noted that in rural areas, education for chronic conditions is hard to spread because of limited access and funds.

The Batavia Town Board renewed shared services agreements for building code enforcement with four towns Wednesday night.

The agreements are for code enforcement in the town of Pavilion and for mutual code enforcement coverage when necessary with the towns of Elba, Pembroke and Le Roy.

Costs in all cases are for services rendered, said town Supervisor Greg Post.

New portal provides citizens and civic app developers with municipal data in a user-friendly format.

Joining the national push for open data, the city of Sacramento has launched an open data portal that provides access to building permit activity, crime reports, budget information, land-use data and more.

“This new Web site provides digital access to city hall in a way that has never been done before. It is our continued goal to be transparent and this is a great starting point for us,” City Manager John Shirey said in a prepared statement released last week.
