  • Morocco targets wider ICT use

    Morocco recently adopted a national digital strategy aimed at expanding the use of information and communications technology (ICT) by the public, the government and businesses by 2013.

    In the presence of King Mohammed VI, the government and banking institutions agreed on Saturday (October 10th) to allocate 5.2 billion dirhams for the "Maroc Numeric 2013" initiative.

    "One aim of the strategy is to bring the government closer to the public and businesses," Trade and Industry Minister Ahmed Reda Chami said at the signing ceremony in Rabat.

  • Morocco to Deploy Electronic Government Procurement System

    The Government of Morocco has agreed to partner with the Development Gateway Foundation and the Government of Italy to deploy a new e-government system that will streamline public procurement processes, increase competitive bidding and save money for Moroccan taxpayers. A letter of intent was signed today at the International Forum of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Strategies and Investment, in Marrakesh.

    Technical assistance and seed funding for the project will come from the Development Gateway's e-Government Grants Program, a partnership with the Government of Italy. The World Bank will provide additional co-funding. The project includes a new procurement management system and a national public tender website to increase access to government contract information.

  • Morocco: Government publishes document on ‘e-Maroc' strategy

    The Ministry-Delegate in charge of General and Economic Affairs has published the first document on ‘e-Maroc' (e-Morocco) strategy, which is part of a communication package aiming to give a clear vision on the future objectives and perspectives of the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Morocco.

    The package, composed of a CD-ROM and six booklets, contains information about the five axes of ‘e-Maroc' strategy. It includes “e-government: ICT for good governance”; “ICT and Enterprises: ICT for competitiveness”; “ICT Industry: potentials and perspectives”; “Digital Public Space: ICT Vector of democratisation".

  • Morocco: Government resolved to make of online-administration a development fact

    Moroccan prime minister, Driss Jettou, said Monday the government is resolved to make online administration a reality and a factor of development and progress.

    "We want to speed up of the e-administration scheme, as a priority measure that will lay the foundations for a modern, reactive and efficient administration," Jettou said at the opening of the forum "e-administration: real cases and perspectives," held in Rabat July 7-8.

  • Morocco: HM the King chairs presentation ceremony of national strategy 'Maroc Numeric 2013'

    HM King Mohammed VI chaired, here Saturday, the presentation ceremony of the national strategy "Maroc Numeric 2013" (digital Morocco 2013), worth 5.2 billion dirhams (673 million dollars).

    The strategy aims at generating, by 2013, an additional GDP of 27 billion dirhams and creating 26,000 new jobs.

    The ranking placed Rabat four places lower than the previous year.

    Morocco’s capital city of Rabat has ranked 105 worldwide in Smart City Index for 2020, out of 109 cities.

    The International Institute for Management Development (IMD) issued the annual ranking, placing Rabat four places lower than the previous year.

  • South Korea and Morocco join together on IT services

    The Korean government co-hosted an annual event in Morocco, northern Africa, to link Korean IT firms and African countries in the export of Korea’s e-Government system.

    Public Administration and Security Minister Lee Dal-gon, and more than 20 businessmen, including Chief Director of the Korea Information Technology Service Industry Association Kim Shin-bae and National Information Society Agency President Kim Seang-tae attended the two-day event, called Digital Opportunity Forum, in the Moroccan capital of Rabat beginning Sunday.

  • UAE: Key Abu Dhabi IT institutions share e-governance expertise with visiting Moroccan delegation

    A Moroccan delegation led by Deputy Minister H.E. Mohammed Abbou visited the UAE General Information Authority (GIA) today (Wednesday, March 18, 2009), to gain valuable insights on the UAE’s efficient adoption of e-Governance. The group also met representatives of the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) and visited the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC), the developer of the Abu Dhabi e-Government program, during the Abu Dhabi leg of their UAE tour.

    H.E. Mohammed Abbou’s group was welcomed yesterday in Dubai by H.E. Humaid Mohammed Obeid Al Qattami, UAE Minister of Health, Chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAGHR), and Chairman of the General Information Authority. The delegation was given a presentation on the activities, specialties and goals of FAGHR at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel Dubai, after which they proceeded to Dubai eGovernment. They then later joined a luncheon in honour of H.E. Humaid Al Qattami. The group will return to the emirate to visit the Dubai Municipality tomorrow.

  • UAE: Moroccan delegation commends Dubai's achievements in e-governance and digital transformation

    A high-profile government delegation from Morocco headed by Deputy Minister Mohammed Abbou is in Dubai this week. The visiting group aimed to closely study the Emirate’s eServices framework with regard to the provision of electronic services and creation of a robust e-governance system.

    During the visit, the delegation was given a detailed presentation on Dubai eGovernment, its history, its 2,000-plus eServices, and the various systems, core services, technologies, and quality standards adopted, which have made it one of the most advanced electronic governments in the Middle East. The meeting also facilitated the sharing of best practices, knowledge and ideas between the parties.

  • UAE: Moroccan delegation visits Dubai Municipality

    Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality received a delegation from the Moroccan Ministry of Public Sector Modernization, headed by Mohamed Abbou, Minister Delegate to the Minister in charge of the modernization of sectors, and the delegation accompanying him.

    The meeting was attended by Humaid Al Qutami, UAE Minister of Health and a number of Assistants to the Director General and officials of the organizational units in the Municipality.

  • World Bank loans Morocco $100m to enhance public administration effectiveness

    The World Bank has recently approved a $100 million loan to Morocco to support the Moroccan government’s efforts to improve effectiveness of public resource management.

    The bank said in a statement carried by its website the loan is part of a series of programmatic loans designed to support the implementation of the Government's public administration reform support program (PARAP), launched by the Kingdom in early 2002.

    This Fourth Public Administration Reform Loan (PARL-IV) is designed to improve government efficiency in the management of budget resources, strengthen government efficiency in the management of human resources, consolidate and control public payroll, and improve public services and simplify procedures through e-government.
