    Under the WE learn mobile education project, which uses 3G smartphones to create seamless classroom experience, some 350 third-grade pupils and teachers will experience the latest wireless technology that will ease a student-centric model of learning where educational materials can be accessed anytime and anywhere via smartphones.

  • South Korean Wave of e-Learning, Lecture Maker

    Professor Kim Jae-ho is preparing for his lecture using “Lecturer Maker.” Professor Kim formally use Power Point (PPT) to deliver lectures to the students, but since he started using Lecture maker, an e-learning contents authoring tool, his class preparation time has been cut in half and the quality of his lessens have improved.

    Not only that, once Professor Kim changed his authoring tool to Lecture Maker, he received more positive feedback from students. Lee Sung-ah, who is one of the professor’s students, said, “The previous lecture that was given with the old type of PPT was one-sided while the lecture material made with Lecture Maker helped students participate more in class. The new type of tool allows us to understand and focus on the lecture easily.” Moreover, even when Professor Kim was out of town to attend an overseas seminar, he could replace his regular lecture with an online lecture.

  • Sri Lanka gets Indian expertise in telemedicine, e-learning

    Sri Lanka will get access to Indian digital expertise and infrastructure under a deal between the two countries covering electronic public services delivery like e-learning, tele-medicine and office work and linking universities in a high speed network.

    The High Commission of India said the agreement to expand information technology cooperation was signed during a visit to the island by Ravi Shankar Prasad, Indian Minister of Law & Justice and Electronics & Information Technology.

  • Tanzania to participate in e-learning forum

    E-learning Africa (eLA) 2012, the continent’s largest conference of high level policy-makers, decision-makers and practitioners from education, business and public sectors will take place in Cotonou, Benin, on May 23-25.

    A similar continental conference took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, last year and was attended by 1,702 participants.   • Thailand trials cloud for education

    Thailand’s Ministry of ICT (MICT) has launched a pilot project of cloud computing for education called “Braincloud Solution” at six local schools in Nakhon Pathom province, as part of promoting a more efficient use of tablet computers as learning tools under the government’s One Tablet Per Child (OTPC) policy.

    Satainrattanaram School was selected to be the first of the six schools to try out “Braincloud Solution” to connect school via the tablets to the network provided by the government to enable students and teachers to access learning materials, courseware, educational resources, and teachers in Bangkok.

  • The best Time for Korea's e-learning Companies to Show Korean-type Smart Learning

    "The concept of smart learning started in Korea. I think now is the best time for Korea's e-learning companies to export Korean-type smart learning,” Chairman Lee told Korea IT Times. "Education is culture. We should not place focus solely on exportation. We can succeed in localizing our products when cultural color is added to technology."

    Lee noted that smart learning will have a positive impact on Korean companies' overseas advancement. "In the contents sector, they are attempting to improve qualitative services through close cooperation with electronic companies," said Lee.

  • TZ: Tap benefits of e-learning, varsities told

    Local higher learning institutes have been advised to grab the potential of e-learning system by sharing contents with their foreign counterparts online and thus reducing cost incurred in exchange programmes.

    According to the Seacom Head of Sales for East Africa Region, M Julius Opio, following the recent development in construction of Information Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure, plans were underway to link colleges and universities on one educational network.

    “Once the National ICT Broadband Backbone is completed, the local universities will be connected to other universities and exchange contents at lower cost than the current prices,” said Mr Opio.He said after joining the network, then there will be no need for students to travel to other countries or continents for exchange programmes as the foreign contents will be accessed locally.

  • U.S. Department of Agriculture Awards $254,304 grant to GCCC

    Distance Leaerning & Telemedicine grant will be implemented over a 3-year period.

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently awarded Gulf Coast Community College a $245,304 Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant to expand interactive distance learning educational opportunities for residents of Gulf and Franklin counties. The project will be implemented over a three-year period and will serve 600 residents of Gulf and Franklin counties each year.

  • U.S. To Fund Distance Learning In Colorado

    USDA Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Administrator Jonathan Adelstein announced that two areas have been selected to receive grants to help finance Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Program educational projects in rural areas of Colorado.

    “Too many rural communities across the country still lack access to quality digital educational opportunities,” Adelstein said. “These DLT funds will allow more than 5,000 students across 11 counties to use state of the art video conferencing equipment to take advantage of advanced classes and interactive educational sessions offered by larger schools and universities. This financial support we are providing will enable small Colorado schools to bring leading educators directly into their rural classrooms.”

  • UAE: DTCM, Dubai eGovernment to launch diploma course for employees

    The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has joined hands with Dubai e-Government to launch a diploma course on Customer and Employee Values in an effort to train its employees in new-age values and policies for successful organization.

    The DTCM Manager Human Resources, Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot, said: “The agreement will help strengthen the code of conduct for the employees and will be a significant step towards creating an environment of optimal growth and progress within the department. The organization monitors the progress of each employee and keeps open the channel for new and innovative ideas from the staff.

  • UAE: Dubai eGovernment develops eDiploma for DTCM employees

    Dubai eGovernment has recently announced that 22 employees from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) have enrolled for the 'ADAAT' eDiploma, a customised online learning course specially prepared for DTCM staff by Dubai eGovernment, which started yesterday at the DTCM offices.

    Translating to 'behaviour' in Arabic, ADAAT is designed to enhance the communication, customer service and business skills of DTCM staff. It is the second batch of DTCM employees to participate in the eDiploma, who will have up to six months to finish a total of 20 ADAAT courses teaching content including business ethics, team participation, communication, customer and employee focus, and creativity.

  • UAE: Dubai eGovernment introduces eManager certification to its eLearn initiative

    Dubai eGovernment has announced the introduction of a new module to its eLearn initiative. Named eManager, the new certification aims to train managers and supervisory level employees of all government departments in Dubai to facilitate transfer of knowledge and skills within the departments.

    The move complements the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide government department employees a work environment that encourages continuous learning.

  • UAE: Dubai eGovernment signs agreement to provide eLearning solutions to Noor Islamic Bank

    Dubai eGovernment has signed an agreement with Noor Islamic Bank, to provide a full range of eLearning courses to the bank's employees. The move is part of initiatives by Dubai eGovernment to improve efficiency among business organisations by helping them achieve 100 per cent adoption of eServices.

    Under the terms of the agreement, Dubai eGovernment will provide 125 courses to a select group of employees of Noor Islamic Bank. The employees may access the courses through Dubai eGovernment's eLearning portal, www.elearn.ae. Some of the courses offered are telephone skills, effective communication, listening skills, handling difficult calls, and understanding cultural differences.

  • UAE: eGovernment announces winners of Digital Media online course

    Dubai eGovernment has announced the winners of the Digital Media online course that it recently conducted for 200 residents of the UAE, as part of the eGovernment’s e4all initiative. The course was provided free of cost and was followed by a contest conducted to evaluate the participant’s knowledge on topics relating to the subjects covered in the course.

    Among the 200 participants, 30 students were selected for the test to assess their knowledge and skills, out of which, top five students were presented with mobile phones and awarded certificates officially stating the successful completion of the course. The winners this year are Kamyar Rabieena, Umme Abiha, Shirin Patwa, Sujata Ranjit and Budoor Khalid. All students also received participation certificates.

  • UAE: Govt departments asked to make use of online learning

    The Heads of eGovernment teams from various government departments in Dubai were urged to make optimum use of the online learning opportunities available on Dubai eGovernment's portal (www.dubai.ae), at the recent meeting convened by Dubai eGovernment. The move is aimed at accelerating the integration of their services with the eGovernment initiative. The department heads were also updated on the various eServices offered on the portal.
