    The Ministry of Economy has awarded etisalat a Dh6 million contract to implement e-Government services for its internal operations and public services.

    The move is part of a wider framework of a federal plan fully adopt e-Government. Other establishments in the country are already on board.

    His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy, emphasized the importance of adopting the advanced technologies showcased at Gitex Technology Week as a strategic need to develop the UAE as a competitive knowledge-based economy in line with the UAE Vision 2021.

    He said the strong response to the Ministry of Economy's showcase at Gitex highlighted the public's awareness on the importance of e-services. "This year, the Ministry of Economy presented a new cross-section of high quality and efficient online services which will be made available to residents and businesses alike. We also aimed at building strategic partnerships with global IT companies to enhance the efficiency of our e-services. At Gitex, we also strengthened cooperation opportunities with many partners from the local and federal sectors to share best practices and experiences," he added.

  • UAE: Ministry of Education (MoE) and ITQAN launch first Phase of Ministry's web portal

    ITQAN, one of the region's leading IT systems integrators has signed an agreement with the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) to implement the Ministry's new web portal.

    The portal which is built on Microsoft MOSS technologies has been designed to handle more than 500,000 simultaneous users.

  • UAE: Ministry of Finance and GIA discuss cooperation in using the second generation of e-Dirham

    A delegation from the Ministry of Finance and the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) has visited the General Information Authority (GIA) to explore potential cooperation in the application of the electronic payment systems and the use of the second generation of the e-Dirham at the level of federal ministries and entities.

    The visiting delegation included Faisal Al Mansouri, Director of Revenue Development Department at the Ministry of Finance, Emad Ahmed Abdul Wahabm e-Dirham Project Manager at the Ministry, Ahmed Al Naqbi, Senior Manager, Channels and Electronic Banking Services at National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Rania Al Fayed, e-Dirham Project Manager at NBAD.

    H.E. Salem Khamis Al Shair Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Information Authority welcomed the visiting delegation and expressed readiness of GIA to work closely with the Ministry of Finance to enhance electronic payment in the UAE and support the adoption of the second generation of e-Dirham in all government entities in the UAE.

    E-messaging, a project of the e-government initiative launched by MOFI, which aims at providing unique identities for employees within Federal Government for official email communication, is currently linked to the e-portal, a single access channel to UAE Government services and information for residents, businesses, visitors and federal employees.

    As part of its efforts to introduce users to the numerous e-government services and their function, the Ministry of Finance and Industry (MOFI) yesterday held a workshop on e-messaging in cooperation with e-Company and federal government technical managers.

    In its continuous effort to implement the strategic e-Government project, the Ministry of Finance and Industry launched recently its electronic portal which aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of its services and information provided to its stakeholders.

    'We aim through launching the MOFI e-Portal and link it with the UAE federal government general e-Portal to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the services and information we provide to our stakeholders,' said Dr. Mohammed Khalfan bin Khirbash, Minister of State for Finance and Industry.

  • UAE: Ministry of Finance and Industry to launch e-registration of bank guarantee

    The Ministry of Finance and Industry announced today its intention to launch an E-Registration system as early as May 1st, 2004.

    The announcement came during a seminar organized at the Ministry in Dubai. The new system targets the bank guarantees that businesses and private institutions need to provide as part of the procedures of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Bank guarantees aim to protect the rights of employees against their sponsors.

  • UAE: Ministry of Finance, National Bank of Abu Dhabi launch 2nd generation e-Dirham system

    HE Younis Haji Al Khoori, Director General of the Ministry of Finance (MoF), and HE Saif Al Shehhi, General Manager, Domestic Banking, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, launched the 2nd generation e-Dirham cards (Blue Card) with a live demonstration of the system conducted at MoF headquarters at Abu Dhabi today.

    The new e-Dirham cards are expected to raise public service standards, enhance efficiency, innovation and professionalism of Government services. National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) is the official MoF partner for the cards and STS is the developer of the card system.

  • UAE: Ministry reduces work permit processing time from 60 days to 15 minutes

    The Labour Ministry (MoL) has successfully cut down time taken to issue work permits from two months to fifteen minutes with the help of their online portal.

    While 750,000 transactions used to be completed every year earlier, with the introduction of the new portal 2.5 million transactions are completed.

    The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs will issue work permits online by the end of this year, a senior official said yesterday.

    Ahmed Kajoor, Assistant Undersecretary of the ministry, said the move is meant to speed processing of permits and curb forgery and trading of them.

  • UAE: MOFI and Civil Service Bureau put e-HRMS in motion

    The process of implementing e-Human Resources Management Systems (e-HRMS) across federal ministries in the UAE has begun with the appointment of special e-HRMS teams from the Civil Service Bureau (CSB), the UAE Ministry of Finance and Industry (MoFI), and eCompany.

    The appointment of the special e-HRMS teams took place at the first of a series of meetings between the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) and the UAE Ministry of Finance and Industry (MOFI) that will eventually witness the e-Human Resources Management System being implemented across the federal ministries in the UAE.
