Company develops secure system for network authentication

A UK company claims it has developed a more secure system than passwords that is just as simple and cheap. Quizid says its technique uses unique codes instead of user names and passwords.

Users have a credit card-sized device that generates a passcode each time they want to log in. The code is only valid for a short time and can only be used once.

It then connects to a server at the Quizid Vault, a data centre the company says is protected by military-level security.

Quizid is approaching high street banks and building societies to act as agents for distributing the cards.

The passcode technique is designed to solve the problem of employees choosing passwords that are too easy for hackers to guess.
