Three technology majors — Hewlett Packard, Intel and Microsoft — plan to launch the ‘Keystone Alliance’ to target the e-governance sector in the Asia-Pacific region. These companies already collaborate under this alliance in the financial services space. The portfolio of Keystone e-government solutions will include applications for government portals, IT infrastructure, security, education (e-learning), training and procurement.

Keystone is a collaborative technology, sales and marketing campaign between these companies as well as some systems integrators and independent software vendors.

The alliance members will collaborate to provide the government with solutions that offer faster deployment and functionality on industry standard platforms. It will also aid some companies by collaborating with solution providers to tune, optimise and scale applications for HP servers powered by the Intel Xeon family of processors and Intel Itanium 2 processors on Microsoft .net environment.

According to Mr Prasanna Meduri, regional industry manager (public sector), Asia Pacific and Greater China region at Microsoft, the three companies have often worked on the same project. In an effort to synergise their efforts they have decided to band together to provide greater value to both customers and companies.

He said several areas, such as security had acquired greater prominence in the recent past. The companies joint expertise has also been able to already hasten the development and deployment of several projects in Asia, officials said.

Mr P Ravindranathan, director, government and public affairs at HP India said development of solutions was also a part of this alliance.

“We are yet defining the area and trying to build a foundation,” he said. However there seem to be some definite plan. “We want to establish some key milestones. We will establish them and have deadlines,” Mr Ravindranathan said.

G B Kumar general manager, internet solutions, Intel South Asia said the Keystone alliance between Intel, HP and Microsoft will help deliver effective e-government solutions for Indian governments.

The Keystone Alliance is geared to offer solutions for enabling four types of e-government. Some key areas that the Keystone partners will help the different governments address include government to citizen, government to business, government to employee and government to trusted exchange, which includes work in the areas of e-authentication, e-training and disaster assistance.
