According to the 'Government Online' study conducted by the market research firm TNS, growth of e-government services worldwide, during 2003, declined to 11 per cent from 15 per cent in 2002. The study shows that e-government use rates have slowed down in the past 12 months and strategies to increase use of e-governance among internet users are taking more than the anticipated amount of time.
The study covered 31,823 people in 32 countries. It was conducted during the July-October period through telephones and face-to-face interviews.
"While the use of e-government services continues to grow, the rate of increase has slowed down. One of the most important challenges that governments still face is to convince existing and potential users that it is safe to provide personal details online," says Alison Dexter, director of TNS.
