Transforming Government since 2001
More than half of Australia's smallest businesses have used the Internet to gain access to Federal Government services, a study for the government has found. The study, by DMR Consulting, found that 54 per cent of businesses employing fewer than four people had used government services online. For larger companies, the figures rose to 86 per cent.

Both businesses and private users said they were most likely to look for education, health, taxation, employment weather and community support information online.

They told researchers they wanted government services to be more "seamless" and to require less knowledge of internal bureaucratic structures.

On the government side, two-thirds of agencies said they expected to achieve significant cost savings through putting services online.
