"Businesses are realising this system saves them time and money and a third of all Victorian traders have switched to the new on-line service," Lenders said. "The online service is simple and means no travelling, no queues and no extra paperwork." The minister stated that regional traders no longer needed to travel long distances, or mail paper applications to Melbourne, to deal with these business formalities.
The online service also offered businesses a secure transaction facility so they can enter their credit card details with confidence.
Lenders said the service allowed users to search a selected business name and examine if the name was the same or similar to another business.
"The new service allows traders to find out immediately if the business name they've selected is available," Lenders said.
The service was very efficient and, in most cases, registration certificates were in the mail within 24 hours.
"Consumers can also take advantage of the website as it holds important details including the name of a trader behind a business' name, the length of time the business name has been registered and its location," he added.
