Data will be updated every few minutes.

New South Wales state in Australia is providing customers with real-time data on the waiting time at its service centres.

The data will be updated “every few minutes” and is available for 30 service centres, said Service NSW, the agency responsible for bringing the state’s citizen-facing services together. The information can be accessed through the Service NSW mobile app and web site.

“Customers can now beat the queues by seeing how long they’ll have to wait before deciding whether to visit a service centre,” said Minister for Finance, Services and Property Dominic Perrottet. “That helps customers make informed decisions about which centres to visit and how to avoid peak periods such as lunch times and the lead up to holiday periods.”

Service NSW is opening a network of one-stop shops to give citizens access to services from different agencies at the same place. Its web site service.nsw.gov.au is also bringing together online transactions from across agencies. It now offers over 800 government transactions, such as applying for driving licenses and making housing payments.

The agency is also building a centralised system to accept online and contactless payments.
